American photojournalist (born 1970)
Spencer Platt (born March 16, 1970) is an American photojournalist.[1]
Since 2001, he has documented international conflicts for Getty Images[2] in the Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Liberia, Iraq, Ukraine and many other countries.[3] At the end of the 2006 Lebanon War he photographed five young Lebanese driving through the rubble of the bombed South Beirut in a cabriolete. This image was named World Press Photo of the Year 2006.[4][5][6] He was co-winner of the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography.[7]
He was born in Darien, Connecticut.

The hostile crowd was immense, proving difficult to maneuver through as they stood shoulder-to-shoulder trying to gain access to the U.S. Capitol.
One of the many photographers there to capture the events of that day, Jan 6, 2021, was Clark University alumnus Spencer Platt, working for Getty Images.
He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize — journalism's highest honor — for his work that day.
"I was aware a week ahead that something was planned, there was something big, so I raised my hand to join Getty's other staff photographers there," Platt said of the assignment. "I thought I would go down the night before and I'd be home the next night."
He had experience covering Trump rallies in the past where, he said, people had discussed taking extreme actions but never followed through with them. So when he arrived to see the Capitol police unprepared and overwhelmed by the rioters, he was shocked, he said.
While the crowd was not hostile toward him, the situation was very tense, Platt said, especially since phones weren't working, as cell signals were overwhelmed by the sheer number of people present.
