British educator and historian (born 1953)
Sir Anthony Francis SeldonFRSA FRHistS FKC (born 2 August 1953)[1] is a British contemporary historian and educator. As an author, he is known for his political biographies of consecutive British Prime Ministers, John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, and as an educator, the Master of Wellington College, in Berkshire. Seldon is the author or editor of more than 45 books on contemporary history, politics and education.
He has been headmaster of independent schools Wellington College, Epsom College and Brighton College.[2] In 2009, he set up The Wellington Academy, the first state school to carry the name of its founding independent school.[3] He was vice-chancellor of the University of Buckingham from 2015 to 2020,[4] when he was succeeded by James Tooley.[5] In 2024, he returned to Wellington College as the Founding Director of Wellington College Education.

My walk along the Western Front
Jewish involvement in the First World War was far more extensive than I ever realised. I discovered this — and many other things — when walking from Switzerland to the North Sea along the old Western Front for my book The Path to Peace .
As I describe in the book, last year I walked 1,000km from the Swiss border, where the Western Front ended, to the North Sea in Belgium where it began, one million steps, through soil where 10 million died or were so severely injured they could not continue to pick up their ordinary lives again.
I have spent my life in education, running two schools, Brighton College and Wellington College for 20 years, and then as Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.
Walking the famous route today
My books have mostly been about recent British history, including biographies of the six Prime Ministers after Margaret Thatcher. So deciding to write a book on this walk was a fresh departure, a chance to delve into the history of those who died and also that of my own family.
The original idea for the walk came from a young British soldier, Douglas Gillespie, a notion which laid buried for 100 years until I came across it some years ago. His younger brother died very close to where he was fighting, and feel
